Originating in 1980 as a beacon of hope and resilience during a challenging economic period, the MassKara Festival has grown into one of the Philippines’ most iconic cultural celebrations. Characterized by iconic smiling masks, elaborate headdresses, dynamic street dancing, and the unmatched warmth of Bacolodnons, it is a bucket-list experience for local and international travelers alike.
MassKara Festival 2026 Schedule Overview
Organized by the Bacolod City Government and the Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. (BGFI), this year’s festivities are structured to give visitors a balanced mix of community events, sports, pageantry, and high-energy street parties.
1. Pre-Festival Stretch (October 1 – 8, 2026)

October 1: Official opening of food kiosks and preliminary events (such as MassKareppin eliminations).
October 1 – 8: The MassKaralympics multi-sport event, mall displays, art programs, and pageant pre-judging events.
2. Main Festival Highlights (October 9 – 18, 2026)
This is when Bacolod truly comes alive. Hotel occupancy peaks, traffic shifts to accommodate pedestrian zones, and the streets fill with music and color:
- Mid-October Weekends: School and barangay mask/costume display competitions.
